Way Out West Fest - Summer of 2024 *Gothenburg, Sweden*
I was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1984. Same year Denmark was the first country to legalize same sex marriage. For my 40th Nikki surprised me with tickets to travel back to Sweden for the first time since my birth. It was a quick trip, but worth every minute of the jet lag. Seeing the land of Sweden from the plane felt like coming home for the first time. I totally sobbed on the plane.
Day 1: The Kills, Big Thief, Jack White, Air, and PJ Harvey
Day 2: Visit in Stenungsund with Bjorn & Ulla Brit, then to see the house I was born in, and followed PULP then Slow Dive
Day 3: Incredible meal at Fisktorget, shopping in the Haga, followed by Arooj Aftab, Fever Ray, Andre 3000 New Blue Sun (beyond!), and a visit + show with The National. Got to see my old piano student Isla who is all grown up now
Day 4: Café Kringlan, a canal boat tour, Tradgardsforeningen, a cold swim at Frihamnen, and Liseberg!!
I love you Way Out West and Gothenburg, Sweden. Hope to return again soon!
